False Sense of Security...

I just had one of the most horrible experiences of my life. And yet hilarious at the same time. I was sitting in the cafeteria watching a PBS video on the Freedom Riders. My lunch was almost over, and really I should have stopped, but I was just waiting for a good stopping point. As I was about to see what how much time had passed so I could start there next time when a HUGE something dropped from above me and landed on my laptop. I immediately shoved my laptop away from me and moved the opposite direction…forgetting that I still had headphones in my ears and they were plugged into my laptop. In the process I had shoved my empty plate onto the ground, praise God it landed right side up…I had eaten left over pasta…After I had removed the headphones I calmly checked my work email on my phone so if anyone came in they would think I was just checking something on my phone before I gathered my things. The “thing” was a humungous cricket. Somehow it managed to get flipped on its back when it crawled off my laptop. There it was…kicking its little legs, trying to turn over. I pulled my laptop slowly away in case any sudden movements would make it flip over and jump at me. Then I gathered my plate and paper towel off the ground. I walked calmly away, leaving the gross thing still struggling on the table.

I have no idea how loud the sound was that I made when it fell on my computer. I didn’t scream…but I definitely made a sound. Also, I am SO thankful it didn’t fall on my head. There would have been screaming if that had been the case. OMG. I still feel a little shaken up.

Aaaah, Life.

I decided to just take a few moments from what promises to be a busy day to just write about my recent 'goings on'.

This morning when I arrived at work I realized that I forgot my lunch. Saddened but quick to adapt I pulled out my fish coin purse (courtesy of one of my sister's trips) and decided that I would just have to go to the snack shelf upstairs in IT to see what I could buy that would satisfy me and hopefully be more nutritional than  just stuffing my face with chocolate all afternoon. Not that I would object to that prospect, I just don't want to gain 5 pounds today. Suddenly, I remembered that the coffee shop in the main building has quiche. I LOVE quiche ( as a few of my readers recently discovered I love quiche to the point of distraction; you know who you are). Guess what I just got yesterday on my way out of chapel in honor of our company winning a workplace safety award? A gift certificate to said coffee shop! SCORE.

My husband and I are trying to get back into our workout routine after completely abandoning it over the holidays, excusing it's absence during our fast in January and complaining of being  "too busy" through the entire month of February. By March we stopped even trying to justify our behavior and just lollygagged in laziness until one morning I woke up and my dress pants were workin' a little too hard to stay buttoned. We have been working out 3 times a week since then. Early this morning I was working out to an exercise video and using a large can of  hominy and large lion bookend for weights. Possibly it's time for an investment?

(I am kidding of course, I am fully aware that I am far from being overweight)

In other news, I recently had a filling and it took 4 hours for me to feel my face and tongue again. As this was right before dinner, and I like eating, we had a problem. My filling was at 4:30pm and by 6:30pm I was hitting angry hungry. My husband bought me a milkshake so I could at least get my tummy filled. At about 8 it was finally mostly better. At which time I devoured 4 chicken nuggets and a microwave dinner. I was just about to start snacking on a bag of reeses' pieces when my husband spotted me. Dismayed at the fact that I was about to stuff my face with candy having received a filling only hours ago he shamed me into putting them away. "At least wait 24 hours!" he said. Party pooper.

Happy Friday eve everyone!
